Yoga is not to be practiced, it is to be lived. All life is Yoga.
Yoga did not originate from the Buddhist faith. It originated in India. Yoga means “unity” in Sanskrit. Original Yoga is based on divine light energy, not chi ego energy. Yoga is not gymnastics, acrobats, or to show off ones flexibility. Yoga, in it’s true definition, is a state of being that unifies mind, body and spirit. True meditation is the process/path of unifying the energetic parts to the heart chakra. Asana is the act of doing poses in Yoga. Asana should be safety and alignment-based. Most asana in the US, is not. Yoga is a lifestyle. Yoga is lived. Yoga is not a religion. Yoga has been misused. It is sacred, it is a commitment, it is how one lives in their daily life from the unity of mind and body to the heart, not a way to run from life.Zenia, daughter of the founders of Purna Yoga and Heartfull Meditation

Is Yoga Misunderstood?
What is the true meaning and intention of YOGA?
Yoga is a term of wonder and mystique from ancient India. For millennia yoga was considered so sacred that its information and wisdom was given to students only after rigorous testing to make sure that the student was worthy of the information and would keep the knowledge sacred. After all, yoga comes from the Sanskrit word “yuj” which means to bond to yoke, to come together. Yoga is in essence about unity. The unity of the body, the mind, the emotions and the spirit, all acting in a world based upon the precepts of an individual’s “dharma” (life mission).
This magical knowledge has been lost to most yoga practices and people believe they are doing yoga when all they are doing is gymnastics in the name os Asana; with a touch of wise words and awareness of symbols and Indian deities. Yoga has nothing to do with acrobatics and very little to do with asana. Of course, asana is very useful because each asana develops different parts of the body as it strengthens, opens and balances your body. It also attunes the body to different frequencies opening up your nervous system to creativity and joy. Yoga is not about how long you can hold an arm-balance as much as the whole picture: how kind you are to others, how fulfilled you feel in your life and whether you leave the world better than you found it. This is why we, in Purna Yoga, at Alive and Shine Center, do our very best to teach a yoga that is holistic, a yoga that’s involves asana, Heartfull Meditation and light-based pranayama, the applied philosophy of the ancient practice in day-to-day life, nutrition and lifestyle changes. This being the unity, the completeness, that is Yoga. Purna means complete. It is only when we embrace the completeness of the practice that yoga brings the qualities it was designed to: joy, peace, meaningful activity and above all, love.
Every day, as you practice, please remember that your practice is designed to serve you. Approach it with the respect and reverence that behooves a science and an art which has survived for thousands of years.
